Transportation By Winds: Winds, like rivers and glaciers, have the power to move rocks, soil, and stones from one location to another. While not as potent as rivers, wind erosion is noticeably evident in deserts. The transportation of particles occurs in various ways. When winds blow at high speeds, they can carry substantial debris across distances. In contrast, slower winds are only capable of transporting lightweight particles. Interestingly, large rocks may not be lifted by the wind but can instead roll along the ground in the direction of the wind.
Dust storms, particularly visible in deserts, showcase the remarkable capacity of winds. Imagine a dust storm with a diameter of 500 km – it has the ability to lift an astonishing 100 million tons of soil, equivalent to 10 Crore tons. To put this in perspective, it can form a mountain that stands 30 meters high with a base spanning 3 kilometers. The sheer force of wind in action is truly remarkable!
