Priya A.S., a talented writer, received the esteemed Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2023 in the Malayalam language for her novel “Perumazhayathe Kunjithalukal.”

Introduction

Priya, a gifted author, has received recognition for her book “Perumazhayathe Kunjithalukal” (The Children Who Never Withered) in the Malayalam language by receiving the esteemed Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2023. This honour builds on her prior success, which included receiving the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Children’s Literature for the same book in 2020.

Once again, Priya A. S.’s skill and inventiveness in children’s writing have been recognized with the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2023. Her works strike a chord with readers, capturing their imaginations and having an enduring influence.

Recognition for “Perumazhayathe Kunjithalukal”

The 2018 release of “Perumazhayathe Kunjithalukal,” a book by Priya A S, has received high praise. The book served as the foundation for the children’s literary department of The Indian Express’s Malayalam news platform, IE Malayalam. In “Perumazhayathe Kunjithalukal,” Priya was inspired by the devastation of the 2018 Kerala floods.

About The Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar

“Sahitya Akademi” The Sahitya Akademi’s Bal Sahitya Puraskar comes with a monetary award of Rs 50,000 and an engraved copper plaque. Three-person panels choose the winners in each language. As the jury members for Malayalam, Dr. Paul Manalil, B. S. Rajeev, and Mundoor Sethumadhavan participated.

Previous Accolades and Achievements

Priya has already received recognition for her writing talent. She received the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize in 2014 for her Malayalam translation of Arundhati Roy’s Booker Prize–winning book, “The God of Small Things.”

Personal Background and Dedication to Writing

Priya, a native of Kerala’s Alappuzha district and Eramalloor, Cherthala, was born in 1967. She studied English literature at Maharajas’s College in Kochi. She eventually completed a private course to earn a master’s degree. Priya has dedicated her life to writing, and her commitment to her craft has earned her well-deserved praise.
