Schemes under Ministry of Minority Affairs PMO

Ministry of Minority Affairs PMO

The Ministry of Minority Affairs PMO, established within the Government of India, evolved from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on January 29, 2006. It serves as the central authority overseeing both regulatory and developmental initiatives aimed at minority religious and linguistic communities across India.

The National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, recognizes communities such as Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis), and Jains. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi assumed the role of Cabinet Minister for Minority Affairs on September 4, 2017, after previously serving as Minister of State under Najma Heptulla’s leadership. His journey to leadership began when he took on the responsibilities of the ministry independently following Heptulla’s resignation on July 12, 2016.
