India and Sri Lanka have committed to expediting the implementation of a digital education project in the Galle District, Sri Lanka.

Introduction
Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Gopal Baglay, and Sri Lankan Ministry of Education Secretary, M.N. Ranasinghe, exchanged diplomatic discussions notes regarding the implementation of a digital education project in Sri Lanka’s Galle District.
This collaborative effort aims to enhance educational opportunities and foster digital literacy among underprivileged students in the region.
India and Sri Lanka, with the support of a generous grant from the Indian government, will establish modern computer labs, smart boards, and customized curriculum software in 200 schools in the Galle District, Sri Lanka.

India’s development assistance to Sri Lanka includes
- Total assistance of approximately USD 5 billion, with nearly USD 600 million provided as grants.
- Implementation of over 65 grant projects across Sri Lanka’s 25 districts.
- Digital education project in the Galle District is just one of over 20 ongoing projects across various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and vocational training.
