Folding

Folding

Folding is like nature’s way of giving rocks a big, warm hug. Imagine the Earth gently squeezing rock layers together at its plate boundaries, creating these cool formations called folds. When the rocks get cozy and compress, they can either go up like a welcoming wave, known as an anticline (think of it as a nature hug going up), or they can dip down like a little valley, called a syncline (picture the Earth creating a comfy dip).

The Himalayan Mountains and the Alps are like Earth’s masterpieces crafted through this process. It’s like when you press play-dough between your hands, but on a much grander scale! Sometimes, if the rocks are feeling a bit cold and brittle, they might crack and form faults. But if they’re in a good mood and warm enough, they’ll just go with the flow and fold gracefully.
