Project Saksham

Two Project Saksham initiatives are currently underway. Firstly, the Ministry of Finance has initiated a program aimed at enhancing tax administration by leveraging an exchange system with GSTN to facilitate improved implementation of GST and other taxes. Secondly, Indian Railways has launched its own Project Saksham, focusing on providing comprehensive training to its entire staff to enhance their skills and performance on the job. Project Saksham launched by Ministry of Finance

The Ministry of Finance launched Project Saksham in 2017 with the aim of facilitating seamless information exchange within taxation systems, particularly by bolstering the IT infrastructure to support the newly established GST network. This initiative entails establishing a link between the GSTN Portal and the CBEC system, enabling the flow of taxpayer information. CBEC officers will rectify any discrepancies and return the corrected data to GSTN. Furthermore, Project Saksham aims to revitalize the Indian Railways image by enhancing workforce efficiency and productivity. Its focus lies in augmenting the skill sets of the extensive workforce comprising 1.3 million employees within the Indian Railways. This comprehensive project will unfold over nine months as a unified endeavor.

Significance

Indian Customs will be bolstered in expanding the Single Window Interface for Facilitating Trade (SWIFT). The implementation process of GST remains uncomplicated. The Digital India Initiative is set to gain momentum. Notably, there has been a significant enhancement in Ease of Doing Business, particularly within the Central Board of Excise and Customs.

Advantages of Project Saksham

To enhance productivity and efficiency in Indian railway services, a delegation will undergo training in Japan. The focus will be on advanced processes related to bullet trains and cutting-edge heavy haul technologies, preparing staff to meet rising passenger service demands.

Project Saksham Launched by Indian Railways

Indian Railways has introduced Project Saksham, a focused endeavor aimed at elevating the skills of its workforce to drive productivity. This initiative responds to recent challenges such as personnel inefficiencies, service delivery issues, and safety concerns. Indian Railways plans to enhance its 1.3 million-strong workforce through a nine-month program from January to September 2018. Tailored one-week training sessions will improve employee skills, boosting efficiency and service delivery.
