Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G)

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin: The government launched PMAY-G to help everyone have a proper home by 2024. It aims to provide solid houses with basic facilities to those without proper shelter. Recently, the minimum size of houses under PMAY-G was increased to 25 square meters from 20 square meters.

Aim and Objective – Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin

PMAY-G aims to ensure that every family in rural areas has a sturdy home with essential facilities by 2024. Our immediate goal is to reach 1.00 Crore households who are currently without proper housing or living in vulnerable structures, within three years from 2016-17 to 2018-19. We aim to empower these families to build quality homes using local materials, designs, and skilled masons. We believe that simply providing a house isn’t enough; it’s about creating a nurturing environment. That’s why we advocate for a comprehensive approach that involves collaboration among different sectors to enhance overall living conditions.

Features

The salient features of the PMAYG scheme are as follows:

  • In plain areas, the cost of each unit will be divided between the Central and State governments in a 60:40 ratio. This means Rs.1.20 lakh of assistance will be provided for each unit.
  • For the Himalayan states, northeastern states, and the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu & Kashmir, the cost-sharing ratio is 90:10, with assistance of up to Rs.1.30 lakh for each unit.
  • Union Territories, including Ladakh, will receive 100% financing from the Centre.
  • Beneficiaries will receive Rs.90.95 per day for unskilled labor from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).The identification of beneficiaries will be based on parameters from the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) and verified by Gram Sabhas.
  • Under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G), assistance of up to Rs.12,000 will be provided for the construction of toilets, in collaboration with MGNREGS or other schemes.
  • Payments will go directly to bank accounts or post office accounts linked to Aadhaar, ensuring electronic transactions.
