The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, or MEITy, is like the tech-savvy brain of the Indian government. It officially came into being on July 19, 2016, breaking away from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Think of it as the cool new kid on the block, solely focused on shaping IT policies and nurturing the electronics industry. One of its cool projects is the “Northeast Heritage” Web, a website backed by the Indian government. This website is like a treasure trove of information about Northeast India, offering content in five Indian languages—Assamese, Meitei (Manipuri), Bodo, Khasi, and Mizo—alongside Hindi and English. It’s all about making information accessible to everyone in their preferred language!
History – Ministry of Electronics and IT
Back in 2012, the Department of Information Technology got a makeover and became the Department of Electronics and Information Technology. Then, on July 19, 2016, it leveled up and became its own full-fledged ministry, known as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This change separated it from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
