On September 18, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Subhadra Yojana, a flagship women-centric program of the Odisha government. This initiative is set to empower over 1 crore women by providing them with financial assistance. During the event, the Prime Minister also unveiled railway and national highway projects worth over Rs 3,800 crore, coinciding with the completion of 100 days of the third NDA regime at the Centre.
In addition to the Subhadra Yojana, Modi released the first installment of assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) for nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries across 14 states. The Prime Minister participated in ‘Griha Pravesh‘ celebrations for 26 lakh beneficiaries under the housing scheme, marking a significant milestone in providing housing for the underprivileged.
Key Highlights:
Subhadra Yojana: This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to women aged 21 to 60 years, enhancing their economic independence and social standing. The scheme’s launch included an immediate fund transfer into the bank accounts of over 10 lakh women.
Infrastructure Development: The unveiling of railway and national highway projects emphasizes the government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure, which is crucial for regional development.
Housing Initiatives: Modi launched the Awaas+ 2024 App to facilitate the survey of additional households under PMAY-G. He also visited the Sabar Sahi slum in Bhubaneswar, where he interacted with beneficiaries and inaugurated homes for 20 individuals under the housing scheme.
During his visit to the slum, the Prime Minister shared a personal experience, reminiscing about his childhood visits to Odisha with his mother. He expressed his gratitude for the traditional Odia sweet dish, ‘kheeri,’ offered by a tribal family, highlighting the warmth and hospitality of the local communities.
Achievements in 100 Days
The Prime Minister emphasized that the NDA government’s first 100 days have been marked by significant achievements and fulfilled promises.
Key decisions include:
- The construction of 3 crore pucca houses for the underprivileged.
- The introduction of a Rs 2 lakh crore PM package for youth.
- The addition of 75,000 seats in medical colleges and approval for connecting 25,000 villages with pucca roads.
Modi also noted that the budget allocation for tribal welfare has nearly doubled, and a special project for the development of approximately 60,000 tribal villages has been announced. Furthermore, he mentioned the introduction of a new pension scheme for government employees,
along with tax reductions for professionals and entrepreneurs.
