Introduction

Following a stunning electoral victory, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the head of the centre-right New Democracy party, was sworn in as Greece’s prime minister for a second term. Mitsotakis has presented his strategies for restoring Greece’s credit rating, generating more tax income, and creating employment and higher pay. His party outperformed the socialist Syriza party, which ruled Greece from 2015 to 2019 amid the country’s economic crisis, winning 158 seats in the 300-seat parliament.

Rebuilding the Credit Rating and Economic Reforms

To meet Greece’s urgent demands, Mitsotakis has promised to make major reforms during his second term. Restoring the nation’s credit rating, which was severely damaged during the financial crisis, is one of his top concerns. He plans to do this by implementing a number of measures aimed at enhancing the business climate and the stability of the banking industry. The triumph of New Democracy, according to renowned rating firm Moody’s, is credit-positive and will ensure consistency in budgetary and economic policy.

Job Creation and Wage Increase

He wants to increase the critical tourist sector’s earnings, which are important to Greece’s economy. In addition, he wants to improve salaries so that they are closer to the average for the European Union, raising living conditions for Greeks.
