Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan

Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal to double farmers income by 2022, the Farmer and Ministry of Agriculture Government Kaylan launched the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan from June 1 to July 31, 2018. The initiative aims to help farmers improve their farming techniques and increase their earnings.

Implementation

  • The Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan is set to take place in 25 villages, each having a population exceeding 1000. These villages are strategically chosen from Aspirational Districts, identified in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development under the guidance of NITI Ayog.
  • In districts where the count of villages with a population surpassing 1000 is less than 25, the initiative aims to cover all such villages.
  • The Krishi Vigyan Kendra located within the district is responsible for overseeing the overall coordination and implementation of the program in the designated 25 villages of that district.

Various activities to promote best practices and enhance agriculture income are being undertaken under this plan such as:

  • Distribution of Soil Health Cards to all farmers
  • 100% coverage of bovine vaccination for Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in each village
  • 100% coverage of Sheep and Goat for eradication of Peste des Petits ruminants (PPR) also known as sheep and goat plague
  • Distribution of Mini Kits of pulses and oilseeds to all
  • Distribution of Horticulture/Agro Forestry/Bamboo plant 5 per family (location appropriate)
  • Making 100 NADAP Pits in each village
  • Artificial insemination saturation
  • Demonstration programmes on Micro- irrigation
  • Demonstrations of integrated cropping practice
  • Training programmes in each of the villages by ICAR/KVKs in these areas:
    Bee Keeping
    Mushroom cultivation
    Kitchen garden (preferably of women)
    Other relevant income generating activity

Status

  • The Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan (KKA) is making a positive impact in 112 Aspirational districts across the country.
  • In the upcoming third phase of KKA, the focus is on training approximately 17 lakh farmers in diversified farming practices. The goal is to help these farmers in doubling their income.
  • ICAR was vital in spreading awareness about water conservation during Jalshakti Abhiyan. Through 466 events organized by 243 KVKs, about 3.14 lakh farmers and school children actively learned and promoted water conservation measures.
  • The tree plantation campaign involved the enthusiastic participation of public figures, including 34 MPs, 50 MLAs, and 2000 other VIPs and officials. Their involvement underscores the importance of collective efforts for a greener future.
