IAS Divya Mittal Shares Preparation Strategy

IAS Divya Mittal, an accomplished individual who successfully cleared the prestigious IIM and IIT exams, recently turned to Twitter to generously share her valuable preparation tips.

Before taking on the challenging UPSC exam, IAS officer Divya Mittal had already achieved remarkable success by clearing multiple tough examinations such as IIT and IIM. Sharing her valuable insights on reducing distractions, she generously offered some tips and tricks. As a member of the 2013 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Divya Mittal took to Twitter to convey her experiences, stating, “I have conquered some of the toughest entrance tests in the country, including IIT, IIM, and IAS. Although I faced distractions during my study journey, I managed to overcome them. Here are some small but effective tips to conquer distractions and achieve great focus.”

Reducing mobile usage

Divya Mittal emphasizes the importance of regularly monitoring one’s phone usage and the time spent on various apps each week. According to her, it is quite common for individuals to be unaware of the extent to which they waste time on mobile applications. Being mindful of this aspect can help in better managing and optimizing one’s time for more productive pursuits.

Keep Mobile Phone in Switch Off Mode

Divya Mittal, the esteemed IAS officer, goes on to recommend that individuals studying should keep their smartphones switched off and at a distance from them. In her tweet, she advises locking the phone and entrusting it to a parent or friend. Divya assures that taking such measures will not lead to any catastrophic consequences, and in case of any urgent matters, important messages will still reach the person. This approach helps in minimizing distractions and ensures focused and uninterrupted study sessions.

Early Morning Study

Divya Mittal also shared the power of morning study sessions and shared a technique that she used. Divya Mittal said she used to keep her alarm far away from her so that it pushed her to get up and start her studies. 

Tips to Increase Focus

To improve her focus, Divya Mittal had intense study sessions of 90-120 minutes and followed it up with a 15-minute break. Divya Mittal also suggested that aspirants undertake a meditation practice known as Trata which involves fixing one’s gaze on an object to improve focus. 

Exercise

Divya Mittal studied for 90 to 120 minutes straight with a 15-minute break in between to sharpen her attention. Additionally, Divya Mittal advised aspirants to try the Trata meditation technique, which entails focusing on one object in order to increase concentration.

Divya Mittal added, “Get close to nature – go to a park and walk/sit, get some sunlight even if for 5–10 minutes. Exercise, preferably outside, at least a 20-minute walk.”
