The National Health Authority (NHA) has unveiled the “100 Microsites” project, aimed at accelerating the adoption of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) across India. Mizoram has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first state to operationalize an ABDM Microsite in its capital city, Aizawl.

About ABDM Microsites

  • The ABDM Microsites are defined geographical regions where focused outreach efforts would be made to onboard small and medium-scale private healthcare providers.
  • Under this, all healthcare facilities including the private clinics, small hospitals and labs in the region shall be made ABDM-enabled and will offer digital health services to the patients.

What is the purpose of ABDM microsites?

  • Microsites were conceived with the aim of significantly boosting healthcare digitization initiatives throughout the nation.
  • The NHA (National Health Authority) had previously supervised pilot microsites in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Surat.
  • The knowledge gained and insights from these pilot projects have been integrated into the comprehensive framework of the 100 microsites project under ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission).
  • ABDM microsites are designated geographical areas where concentrated outreach efforts are focused on engaging small and medium-scale private healthcare providers.
  • Within these regions, all healthcare facilities, including private clinics, small hospitals, and laboratories, will be enabled with ABDM capabilities, allowing them to offer digital health services to patients.
  • The primary implementation responsibility for these microsites lies with State Mission Directors of ABDM, with the National Health Authority (NHA) providing financial resources and overall guidance.
  • An interfacing agency within this program will deploy an on-ground team tasked with reaching out to healthcare providers in the designated area.
  • This team will raise awareness about the advantages of ABDM and assist service providers in becoming part of the core registries under ABDM. Additionally, they will promote the use of ABDM-enabled digital solutions for routine clinical documentation.

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

  • In September 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
  • Originally named the National Digital Health Mission, it was launched as a pilot program on August 15, 2020, initially implemented in six Union Territories.
  • Leveraging the foundations of the Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile (JAM) trinity, along with other government digital initiatives, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is establishing a seamless online platform. This platform offers a wide range of data, information, and infrastructure services, emphasizing open, interoperable, standards-based digital systems while ensuring the security, confidentiality, and privacy of health-related personal information.
  • As part of this mission, citizens will receive a digital health ID.
  • This initiative aims to make healthcare facilities easily accessible to citizens with just a click.

Appointment of Interfacing Agency in Mizoram

  • The implementation of the ABDM microsite in Aizawl has been entrusted to “Youth for Action” appointed as the interfacing agency.
  • His role includes overseeing the successful execution of the ABDM microsite at Aizawl.

Enhanced Patient Experience

  • Patients can seamlessly link their health records with Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA).
  • Access and sharing of health records is facilitated through ABDM-enabled personal health record (PHR) applications on mobile devices.

Learning from Pilot Projects

  • Previous pilot projects in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Surat have contributed to shaping the architecture of the wider 100 Microsites project under ABDM.
  • States like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh are also making significant progress in implementing ABDM microsites.
