The Indian Army contingent has departed for the 15th edition of the India-US joint Special Forces Exercise, VAJRA PRAHAR. Scheduled to take place from November 2 to November 22, 2024, the exercise will be held at the Orchard Combat Training Centre in Idaho, USA.
The previous edition was conducted in December 2023 at Umroi, Meghalaya. This marks the second joint military exercise between the Indian and US armies in 2024, following Exercise YUDH ABHYAS held in Rajasthan in September.
Composition of the Exercise Contingents
Both the Indian and US contingents for Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR will include 45 personnel each. The Indian contingent will be represented by elite Special Forces units, while the US contingent will consist of the renowned Green Berets.
Objective and Scope of Vajra Prahar
The primary goal of Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR is to foster military cooperation between India and the United States by enhancing interoperability and mutual exchange of special operations tactics. Designed to strengthen combined capabilities, the exercise will involve Joint Special Forces Operations in desert and semi-desert terrains. Activities will focus on joint planning, tactical drills, and the rigorous physical fitness required for Special Forces missions.
Key Drills and Training Modules
Key aspects of the exercise will include:
1. Joint Team and Reconnaissance Missions: Focused on mission planning and intelligence gathering.
2. Use of Unmanned Aerial Systems: Techniques in drone-assisted reconnaissance and operations.
3. Execution of Special Operations: Emphasis on joint tactical skills and high-risk operations.
4. Joint Terminal Attack Controller Operations: Training for coordinating air support in combat scenarios.
5. Psychological Warfare: Techniques in the strategic use of psychological operations in Special Forces missions.
