Exercise GARUD SHAKTI: The Indian Army contingent, consisting of 25 personnel from The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), departed for Jakarta today to participate in the 9th edition of the India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise, GARUD SHAKTI 24. Scheduled from November 1 to November 12, the exercise brings together the Indian Special Forces and 40 personnel from Indonesia’s Special Forces, Kopassus.
Objective of Exercise GARUD SHAKTI
Exercise GARUD SHAKTI aims to build mutual understanding, cooperation, and interoperability between the Special Forces of India and Indonesia. The exercise focuses on familiarizing both sides with each other’s operational procedures, fostering military cooperation, and deepening the bond between the two armies. Through a series of discussions and rehearsals of tactical military drills, the exercise enhances bilateral military cooperation.
Scope of Training
1. Key training components include:
Special Operations Planning and Execution: Focus on strategizing and carrying out high-stakes missions.
Advanced Special Forces Skills: Training in specialized techniques crucial for jungle warfare and counter-terrorism.
Tactics, Techniques, and Equipment Familiarization: Sharing insights on weaponry, equipment, and tactical innovations to strengthen joint operations.
2. Key Exercises
The training will cover joint practice in jungle terrain operations, simulated strikes on terrorist camps, and a validation exercise to integrate basic and advanced special forces skills. Additionally, participants will exchange cultural insights, enhancing mutual respect and understanding between the two nations.
