Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchasing/fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) Scheme

Assistance to Disabled Persons

Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchasing/Fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) scheme aims to lend a helping hand to those with disabilities by providing them with the necessary tools and equipment. These aids aren’t just any tools; they’re carefully chosen for their durability, modern design, and scientific approach to assisting in physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation.

About

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, launched the “Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids/Appliances” Scheme, also known as the ADIP Scheme, on January 1st, 1981. Its main objective is to help disabled individuals obtain suitable, durable, scientifically-manufactured, and modern aids and appliances. These tools aim to support physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation by lessening the impact of disabilities and boosting economic potential.

The provision of assistive devices aims to enhance independent functioning and prevent the progression of disability and the onset of secondary complications. Additionally, the scheme encompasses medical/surgical interventions necessary prior to the fitting of aids and appliances. The cost of assistance varies, ranging from ₹ 500/- for individuals with hearing and speech impairments, ₹ 1,000/- for the visually impaired, to ₹ 3,000/- for those with orthopedic disabilities. Approved for continuation until March 31st, 2026, the ADIP Scheme remains committed to improving the lives of persons with disabilities.

Objective

The primary goal of this Scheme is to lend a helping hand to individuals with disabilities who are in need, ensuring they have access to top-quality, scientifically designed aids and appliances. These resources aren’t just tools; they’re companions on the journey of physical, social, and emotional recovery. By lessening the impact of disabilities, they pave the way for a better quality of life and empower individuals to reach their full potential, not just economically, but in every aspect of their lives.
