5th State Food Safety Index

Light has been shed on the performance of states and union territories in ensuring food safety by the recently unveiled 5th State Food Safety Index (SFSI), presented by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare.

About State Food Safety Index (SFSI)

The State Food Safety Index (SFSI) is an annual evaluation published by FSSAI, designed to encourage states and union territories to improve their performance and establish strong food safety systems within their jurisdictions. This comprehensive index assesses various aspects of food safety across six categories. Introduced in 2018-19, the SFSI promotes healthy competition and drives positive transformations in the nationwide food safety landscape, with the ultimate goal of ensuring the availability of safe and nutritious food for all residents.

Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, and Chandigarh secured the first, second, and third ranks, respectively, among the union territories.

Training and Infrastructure Development

To ensure food quality standards across the country, the Union Health Minister announced that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will train 25 lakh food business operators in the next three years. This initiative aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of food industry professionals, ultimately promoting safer food practices.
