Suryamitra Skill Development Programme

Suryamitra Skill Development

The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), an autonomous institution of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), is the apex National R&D institution in the field of Solar Energy. NISE is organizing “Suryamitra” skill development programmes in collaboration with State Nodal Agencies, at various locations across the country. The programme aims to develop the skills of youth, considering the opportunities for employment in the growing Solar Energy Power project’s installation, operation & maintenance in India and abroad.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidates with the following qualifications are eligible:

Essential: You should have passed at least 10th grade and completed an ITI course in Electrician, Wireman, Electronics Mechanic, Fitter, or Sheet Metal. You must also be at least 18 years old.

Preferred: We prefer candidates who hold a Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics fields. Additionally, we give preference to those with a certificate in electrician work and relevant experience. However, individuals with engineering degrees or higher qualifications are not eligible to apply.

Selection Priority: We will prioritize candidates from rural areas, unemployed individuals, youth, women, and SC/ST candidates during the selection process.

Not Eligible: Individuals with higher qualifications such as a degree in any discipline are strictly not eligible to apply.

Duration & Seats

Program Duration: You’ll be part of our residential skill development program for around 90 days, totaling approximately 600 hours of training.

Free of Cost: This program is entirely free, covering your accommodation and meals during your stay.

Sponsorship: The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, proudly sponsors the Suryamitra Skill Development Program.

Limited Seats: Each training batch can accommodate up to 30 participants, so there’s a chance for intimate and focused learning.

Assessment and Certification: After you finish the course, we’ll assess your skills and award you certificates to recognize your achievements.

Admission

  • The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s State Nodal Agencies and the host institute will announce upcoming training batches through advertisements in newspapers, on television, or online.
  • Before each program begins, the host institute will finalize the selection of trainees. They’ll then share the details of these chosen participants with NISE (National Institute of Solar Energy) or the relevant State Nodal Agency.
  • When selecting trainees, we will prioritize individuals from rural areas, unemployed individuals, women, and candidates from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled groups communities.

Teaching and Practical Work

  • The main curriculum for teaching will follow Module-5 approved by the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT), as attached with the guidelines.
  • The training program is residential with a clear daily time table which would preferable include early morning physical exercise such as Yoga/PT etc.
  • We can use the first hour of the day for classroom lectures.
  • You can use the practical hours for hands-on exercises in the lab sites, experiments, classroom activities, software simulations (if applicable), and to administer regular quizzes/class tests and organize industrial visits.
  • For experiments or field visits, we may divide the batch into multiple groups depending on the availability of facilities.
  • We’ll host motivational sessions every two weeks, each lasting for an hour.
  • The host institute shall provide one set of uniform to all the Suryamitra participants.
  • Participants must attend the session in proper uniforms only. A T-shirt (Grey color) with NISE logo and a pant (Yellow Color) for both male/female.
  • The host institute must provide all participants with jackets, safety helmets, and boots. After the training, the host institute may keep these items.
  • We will provide each participant/group with the necessary toolkits for working in the lab/site.
  • Each modules of a session guides the trainer to prepare the materials for that particular session.
  • The trainer is free to opt for any references and, training methodology/slides, provided the objectives in the sessions are covered in full length.
  • The preferred medium of instruction would be the respective local language, but though Hindi and English may also be preferred depending on the demand from the class.
  • The trainer/institute may also conduct a class test/quiz at the end of each session as a part of continuous assessment.
  • The criteria/pattern of conducting these quizzes and tests can be decided by the trainer. Also, each day may preferably start with the recap of the previous day’s sessions.
  • Trainers are requested to give sufficient home works to the participants during the weekend.

        Attendance

        • Teachers and staff responsible for classes will mark attendance until the final day of the training program, and the institution will maintain these records.
        • Trainees are generally required to attend all theory sessions and practical workshops.
        • To be eligible for a certificate at the end of the training, participants must have at least 90% attendance overall.

        Fee Structure

        • Trainees won’t be charged any fees for the training.
        • Trainees are responsible for arranging their transportation to and from the training venue.
        • Any security deposit collected will be refunded after the course and will be properly recorded.
        • The organizing institution will cover the boarding and lodging expenses for trainees.
        • The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, through the State Nodal Agency, will provide Rs 8.10 Lakhs for 30 trainees for a 90-day period.
        • The Ministry will also cover the course fee for the institute, providing Rs 4.50 Lakhs based on Rs 25/- per hour per participant for 600 hours.
        • Additionally, the Ministry will cover assessment charges for 30 trainees, amounting to Rs 0.24 Lakhs at Rs 800/- per trainee.

        Assessment of Trainees

        At the end of the three months, you’ll have your final exam, which includes a written test and a practical examination. The Skill Council for Green Jobs or NCVT will be overseeing this.

        Industrial Visit

        In the initial two months of the Suryamitra program, we aim to organize at least three visits to medium or large industries. During these visits, participants will get hands-on experience and understanding of power transmission, distribution systems, various loads, cabling setups, and more. Additionally, we’ll ensure that each participant has the opportunity to visit a 33 kV substation, gaining valuable insights into its operations and significance.

        Employment Aspects

        At the conclusion of the Suryamitra program, the organizing institute strives to help participants find job opportunities. They do this by reaching out to solar companies, contractors, marketing firms, and other relevant organizations in the energy sector. The goal is to ensure that as many Suryamitra graduates as possible secure employment after completing the program. The institute may also collaborate with industry associations to facilitate job placements.

        Suryamitra Mobile App

        As part of the Suryamitra program, NISE has created a special mobile app called the Suryamitra Mobile App. This app connects trained individuals known as “Suryamitras” with people all over India who need help with solar applications. With just a few taps, users can access the expertise of these Suryamitras right at their doorstep, making solar energy more accessible than ever before.
