Subhash Chandra Bose

Subhash Chandra Bose is one of the most dynamic leaders of India's struggle of Independence. He India's struggle of Independence. He is popularly known as Netaji. He was born in Cuttack, in Orissa on January 23 1897 to Janaki nath Base and Prabhavati Devi.

His patriotism, call for freedom and obdurate refusal to stop before achieving the desired goal have made him a hero. Mahatama Gandhi was the first who addressed him as Netaji.

Subhash Chandra Bose and Indian National Congress

He joined Non-Cooperation Movement During the movement he was advised by Mahatama Gandhi to work with Chitta Ranjan Das, who became his political Guru.

After that he became a youth educator and commandant of the Bengal Congress Volunteers.

  • He started the Newspaper ‘Swaraj’. After being released from prison Bose became general Secretary of the congress party & worked with Jawahar Lal Nehru for Independence.
  • In 1938 in Haripura (Gujrat) he was elected president of Indian National Congress and formed a National Planning Committee.
  • In 1939 in Tripuri He decided to stand again, based on his new Ideas, Ideologies policies & program. But leaders like Rajendra Prasad, JB Kriplani were against him.

Gandhi and other leaders put up at Tripuri Session of Congress.

Subhash Chandra Bose openly accused the leaders of congress as working for compromise with Government.

            The Congress felt that they could not work with the president who had publicly accused them. Gandhi Ji also rejected his ideologies and leadership and denied to work with him.

            Finally Bose resigned as president. Subsequently Subhash formed “Forward Bloc”

  • Formation of ‘Forward Bloc

All India forward Bloc was a left wing Nationalist Political party in India, led by Subhash Chandra Bose. The prime objective of the Forward Bloc was to bring all radical Elements of the congress party. So that he could spread meaning of Complete Independence of India with adherence of the principle of Equality & Social justice.

Subhash Chandra Bose And The Indian National Army

The Azad Hind Fauj was first established by Captain General Mohan Singh in Singapur in 1942 Japanese Encourage Civilian Indian to form Anti British Organisation and Indian prisoner recruited into (INA).

But after the arrest of Mohan Singh. Subhash Chandra Bose brought to Singapur on 2nd July 1943.

By Submarine of Germany and Japan. Here Bose met P.M. Tojo who declared that Japan had nothing against India. Subhash Chandra Bose up Provisional Government of Free India in October 1943.

      The Provisional Government declared war on the British and U.S.A. and was recognised by the AXIS power (Japan, Italy, Germany) recruits were sort from civilian fund gather and regiment called Rani Jhansi Regiment.

  • Brigades of INA were named after Gandhi, Nehru and Subhash.
  • On 6th July 1944 in a Broadcast Azad Hind Radio Subhash Chandra Bose addressed Gandhi as “Father of Nation” and asked him for his blessings in war.

            The Slogans of the INA were “Jai Hind” and “Delhi Chalo”. The most famous was Subhash’s Declaration “Tum Mujhe Khoon Do Mein Tumhe Azadi Dunga”.

Fighting side by side with the Japanese armed forces the INA crossed the Indian’s frontier on March 18th 1944.

However with the Collapse of Germany and setbacks to the Japanese armies, the INA too could not stand its own and INA surrendered to the British in South East Asia.

  • Death of Subhash Chandra Bose

Following Massive British offensive in the middle of 1945, Subhash Chandra Bose Escaped from Singapur to Japan. But in one of the disastrous days of August 1945, Netaji Reportedly lost his life in plane crash over Farmosha Island (Taiwan).

  • Over the years his death has been a mystery as speculation have been made that he didn’t die at all.

  • In 1941, with a daring escape from House arrest in India he reached Germany to seek help for India’s Independence.
  • He ranked Fourth in the ICS Exams to fulfil the promise he made to his father but he left it because he didn’t want to work for British Government.
